KAMMERWERKE Double Wind Quintet Concert

Joseph Reicha was a composer representing the Harmoniemusik period of the late 18th century. During those times, wind music began to flourish extensively, following two centuries of string orchestra growth. Reicha's Parthia in D provides the interesting colors of chamber wind music. Composed in the familiar style of Mozart, Haydn, and early Beethoven, the music has charm, wit, simplicity, and brevity.
Suite Persane by French composer Andre Caplet is a three-movement work of the early 20th century. It calls attention to the unusual scales of Persian music, yet the score is crafted in firm compositional tradition and technique. Suite Persane is haunting, stately, romantic, colorful, and vibrant with energy.
Norse Legend by 20th century English composer Frank Bridge, is both romantic and impressionistic. Its gentle, swaying melody is in the style of Ralph Vaughan Williams. This single movement work is based on a chamber orchestra composition which was drawn from its original 1905 version for violin and piano.
Czech Suite by Antonin Dvořák is one of the composer's great symphonic chamber orchestra works which highlights Czech folk music and folk dance. We hear the influence of Bohemian bagpipes, a polka, a mazurka, and a finale which features the furiant rhythm – 2+2+2+3+3. Lively, melodious, and filled with colorful energy, this arrangement for dectet by Graham Sheen does considerable justice to the original score.
